The Quang Nam provincialPeople’s Committee has held a meeting with the Central Power Corporation aboutinvestment, to bring electrical power by underground cable to the Cu Lao ChamIslands. The project, with aplanned total capital of over VND426 billion, will lay a total 34 kilometers ofline. There will be 15.5 kilometres of 22kV trans-ocean line and 18.5kilometres of 22kV line running from the mainland. With completion expectedin 2015, the project will meet local residents demand and serve towards thesocio-economic development of the Tam Hiep community, particulary in thetourism sector; and contribute towards the needs of national defence and thesecurity of the sea and islands. During the workingmeeting, Dinh Van Thu, Deputy Chairman of the provincial People’s Committeeagreed with the progress set by the Central Power Corporation, committing thatthe province would create every favourable condition for the corporation tocarry out the work.. Cu Lao Cham Islands,situated 18 kilometres from Hoi An City, consists of 8 small islands with atotal area of 15 square metres, including Cu Lao Cham Island – the largest one,the home to 2,700 residents. At present, Cu Lao Champower source is generated from a diesel power factory which does not providesufficient power for people’s daily use, production and rapidly developingtourism./.
