The 11 SoutheastAsian and China Foot and Mouth Disease Campaign (SEACFMD) membercountries as well as donor countries and partner organisations willaddress the necessity to control foot and mouth disease (FMD) at sourceand to protect zones and countries that are currently recognised by theOIE as being FMD-free.
They will review the resources needed to meet national and regional needs related to FMD control.
During the meeting, participants will consider aligning controlstrategies recommended under the revised and updated SEACFMD 2020Roadmap aligned with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO)-OIEGlobal Strategy for FMD Control endorsed by more than 100 countries inJune 2012 during the Global Conference.
They will also consider improving linkages with other FMD programmes in the region.
Among SEACFMD member countries, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei andthe Philippines are now officially recognised as free of FMD. FMDremains in the rest of Southeast Asia except in Malaysia’s Sabah andSarawak which were recognised as FMD-free zones in 2004.-VNA
